Courthouse Memorial Park

Attention: Current, Former, or Family of Former County, Personnel:
At the Regular Meeting of the Iron County Board of Commissioners held Tuesday, January 11, 2007, the creation of a Courthouse Memorial Park on the front lawn of our historic Iron County Courthouse Complex, which would honor former and current county personnel, was officially approved.
In an effort to pay a fitting tribute to Prosecuting Attorney Joseph (Joe) Sartorelli, the Iron County Board of Commissioners, elected officials, department heads, and staff donated so that a Red Maple tree could be purchased and planted to honor Joe on the Courthouse lawn. The tree was planted at the end of May.
This brought up the concept of honoring other county personnel as well, either current and/or former, deceased or living, and how best to do this. A futuristic Courthouse Memorial Park was subsequently created by installing engraved bricks in a herringbone designed sidewalk and patio along with a bench labeling the Park, as well as the placement of flower urns. The Park is a wonderful opportunity to honor and recognize other county personnel as well as enhancing Joe’s tree.
The bricks are 4 inches by 8 inches with four lines maximum. You are permitted a maximum of 21 characters per line including spaces and punctuation. The cost of the brick is $50.00. If you wish to be included in this exciting Memorial Park please complete the order blank and return it to our office, with your check payable to the County of Iron Brick Project. We will continue to order bricks (lots of 10) and they will be installed by Rich Bekkala of Bekkalawn Landscaping.
The order form is self-explanatory but please do not hesitate to contact Sue Clisch the Iron County Board of Commissioners Office, 2 South Sixth Street, Suite 7, Crystal Falls, Michigan 49920-1413, by telephone at 875-3301, fax at 875-0655, or email (with brick interest in the subject line) at sclisch@iron.org.
The dedication of the Courthouse Memorial Park took place on July 5, 2007, and was attended by more than 250 people.
