ANNOUNCEMENT OF NEW HOURS

Effective Immediately the Iron County Construction Code Office hours of service to pull a building/electrical permit will be

October - April ~ Monday - Friday from 8:00 am to 11:30 am

May - September ~ Monday - Friday from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm

Forms will always be available during normal working hours. The forms and the "Iron County Building Guide" booklet are available outside the Iron County Construction Office door in a self service display when the office is closed. (The office is closed during holidays.) The Construction Code phone numbers will remain the same:

The Iron County Construction Code Office is located in the basement of the Iron County Courthouse.

If you are considering building your dream home, a hunting camp, a cottage on one of Iron County's beautiful lakes, a deck for entertaining, or a new garage, the staff of the Construction Code Office will attempt to make the process as easy as possible.

APPLYING FOR A BUILDING PERMIT

To apply for a building permit, bring the following information with you to the Construction Code Office.

  • A legal description of your property or the house/fire address of the property
  • For a new housing unit or a housing addition, bring prints or a floor plan
  • For a commercial project, bring a copy of the signed architectural and/or engineering plans/blueprints. (Michigan registered architect or engineer)
  • An estimate of the total cost of the construction project, including labor charges.

Once you begin building, you or your agent are responsible for calling our office for the necessary inspections. An inspection schedule is listed in the booklet entitled "Iron County Building Guide." If you would like a copy of the booklet mailed to you; please call our office at (906) 875-3102 with your request. The guide contains general construction informaiton and a listing of contractors, building suppliers, etc.

The chart below will enable you to get an estimate of the costs. If you print and complete the Building Permit Application from this site, please mail it to us along with the paperwork that applies to your situation from the "Applying for a Building Permit" area above. Include a check for a permit costs in the envelope. Your building plans will be reviewed and we will process your permit. If there are any additional charges we will forward you a bill for the difference. Permit is not valid until payment of permit fees are paid in full.
