The County Clerk's/Circuit Clerk's office now offers the option to pay fines and costs, purchase a plat book or a certified copy of vital records online through Government Payment Services. Government Payment Services (GPS) is an independent company that charges a fee for its services. The court/office receives no part of that fee.
HOW DOES IT WORK? You will need a valid credit card: Discover, Visa, Master Card or American Express. The Cardholder can Logon to the GPS Website: www.governmentpayment.com and click on "Make a Payment," or one can call their Toll-Free # 1-888-604-7888. (Live operators are available 24 hours a day/7 days a week to help you.)
The Cardholder must have a "Pay Location Code." There are three "Pay Location Codes:"
1. #5877 for Fines and Costs. You should have your case number available, and the amount you are going to pay.
2. #5878 for Plat Books. The cost for plat book plus shipping is $33.00. Two books are $64.00, three are $95.00.
3. #5879 for Vital Records. The cost of one certified birth/death/marriage is $10.00 for the first copy, plus $5.00 for each additional copy. So, two copies are $15.00; three copies are $20.00; etc. You will need to have the personal information necessary in order to process your request; for example: Date of Birth, Date of Marriage, etc. If you are requesting a birth certificate, you will also need to FAX a photocopy of your driver's license, or some other recent identification to the Iron County office. The FAX number is 906-875-6775.
The operator will confirm the amount, plus the GPS fee. Also where the document should be sent. If the Cardholder provides a valid email address, GPS will send them a receipt via email for internet payments, or the operator will give them a confirmation # for phone payments.
After this procedure is done, our office will receive a FAXed Transaction document which informs us that your request should be processed. Processing is generally completed within 24 hours.
We started this service just recently, but it works very well for everyone.
